The Eklektos network was founded by Peter and Kim Brookes.
Peter, a BUGB-accredited lay-pastor, led a Baptist church in the West Midlands until 2011 and has been married to Kim for over thirty years.
Kim was a qualified nurse before leaving to raise two sons who have both been actively involved in church.
Their eldest son “came out” in 2012.
Why the name Elektos
Eklektos is a Greek word meaning chosen, elect, to choose or to select.
When choosing a name for this organization, we wanted something short, yet described us as a group of individuals who have a special calling—that of being parents to gay or lesbian children.
If you are a parent of a gay or lesbian child, then God has chosen you to express His love for your child. Not to condemn or condone, but to love them as Christ loves you.
For some, this will be a difficult journey and that is why God has called us to set up Eklektos—so we can support one another on this journey of faith. It is
probably not a path we would have chosen, but God has chosen us so that we may bring Him glory through it.
